Stay On Track During The Summer Vacation

The end of Summer is coming and everyone is either on or wrapping up their vacations.  Did or have you kept active during your Summer vacation? If so, what did you do to remain active? If not, are you planning on getting back on track? If you never have been able to get serious before, are you planning on getting fit and healthy before New Year’s?

Being on vacation is a brief break to enjoy family and friends time without worrying about work. Whether you all travel hundreds miles away or stay around in the nearby area, you should remain active as much as you can while on vacation. The key is not to look at your workouts as a choir, but as your “me” time. The time used to release stress, burn calories, and feel strong and healthy!

There are many different ways to remain active on your vacation. An early morning walk, jog, or run on the beach to just simply using the gym located at your hotel or at a nearby location. Resistance bands are great from of strength training you can use when there is no access to a gym. They can be manipulated into several exercises that will train the entire body. To make sure you get a great workout, buy a light, a medium, & a heavy resistance band. Whatever type of physical activity you prefer, just make sure to include both resistance and cardiovascular training in your program.

What you do not want to do is take 2 weeks or more off from the gym. Getting back into the grind is not as easy as it seems when you take too much time off. It is almost like starting over with those lovely symptoms of soreness, stiffness, & crankiness. Therefore, it will be very easy to say, “Naw, I'll start tomorrow. Then, tomorrow will be next week and so forth. Do not keep letting yourself down and stay on track this Summer!

Getting Fit and Having Issues with your Significant Other.

When it comes to our pursuit of fitness, your partner, spouse or family members might start developing low self-confidence and self-esteem issues within themselves. They will take cheap shots at the one they love without even knowing how much they hurt that person. Anytime anybody sees a change that will make them be more accountable for themselves, they will attack it. Even if it is a positive healthy lifestyle change. The best thing for you to do when they dish out those cheap shots is hit them back with positive remarks.

Negative Nancies is the term used for people who are in our lives that are not supportive of our goals. Whether they are fitness or other positive goals. These people will find any opportunity to knock you down and crush your positive vibes, because inside they are not happy within themselves. It starts from questioning the time you spend at the gym to accusing you of not spending enough time with your family. Even though your husband is at work, your children are in daycare or with a nanny and you are home alone.

If you are dealing with this type of negativity, just know that you are not alone. When I lost all my weight and started to develop a muscular physique, a friend of mine told me that I LOOKED LIKE A MAN. It was very hurtful to hear that from a person I thought was my FRIEND, but instead of getting mad, I turned it back on him. I told him how I have never felt better,  how I loved the way my body has changed, and how I really didn't care what he thought about how I looked. I DO THIS FOR MYSELF AND NOT TO IMPRESS ANYONE ELSE! I am now able to do physical things in my mid-30's that I was never able to do in my teens and early 20's. Thanks to fitness I was able to change my life around for the best! I saved myself from a life of booze and drug abuse. I quit smoking cigarettes after being a smoker since I was 15 and being BULIMIC since I was 14 years old.

In addition, I turned my son's life around as well. He used to be addicted to fast-food, soft drinks, which was my fault because I used to believe that I didn't have anytime to cook at home. He also used to have behavioral problems at school, bad grades, play video games all day and a pot belly. He was only 10 when I started my fitness career and he was terribly out of shape. I used him as my first client and whipped him into shape. Now at 16,  he is conscious about what he eats, has a great muscular development, ran track for his high school and trains clients at my studio! I do not have any more problems with his behavior at school, because I got rid of all that high sugar and high fats in his meals. Kids who eat too much sugar and fat are more than likely to have obesity issues, high blood pressure and other medical issues, behavioral problems, depression, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and mood swings. LIKE DRUGS, SUGARS GIVE AN INSTANTANEOUS HIGH WITH A CRASHING LOW!

To make a long story short, getting fit has nothing to do with being selfish! It actually keeps you around your family and friends for a longer than those who live mindlessly or do not care to change their life to a healthy one. It is essential to build a strong foundation for your kids and to show them how to live a LONG, HEALTHY AND GREAT LIFE for their future. So next time you have someone who wants to rain on your fitness parade, hit them with all the positive things that has happen to you since you made your decision to change you health for the better!
